Groove Rider GR-16 is an awesome app for iPad and iPhone by Jim Pavlov. Fenix Song has used it for years and its at the core of two songs on the latest EP: ‘My Personalities’ and ‘Change the World’. Hoping to expand this page out into more categories soon, but the history of this page is: This is a source of free soundsets for Groove Rider GR-16 that you can use to get a headstart on different styles of music. These files are .gr16 files (example: xxxxxx.pattern.gr16) for immediate usage and import into Groove Rider

Chill.

A drum set for Chill or Chillwave style songs. Includes a good synth Pad, a fretless bass made purely from synth, a dirty FM lead, Rhodes with Delay (!!), and a few empty slots. A great start for any Downtempo, Chill-(any variant), ambient, etc.

ChillSoundSet

Drum Synths / Drum Machine.

…like building your own drum synth a la 808 but choose your own adventure style. All drums and rhythm here are made from scratch (no samples) from the GR-16 synths. If you explore this set you will see a variety of methods used to create some of the more challenging drum tones. I would really love to see the community pick up this “soundset” and build and adapt it to a variety of styles. Chiptune.

Maybe not pure Chiptune because it didn’t come from a Commodore 64 or Atari or Nintendo but some of these synths sound like it. Mixed with some other drum tones to build out a full sound.

Chiptune Soundset

FM Powerhouse.

Some FM tones, some Chiptune tones. Drums that sound close to FM generated rhythm synths. Others just analog style to fill in particular roles. Importantly: Bell Tones! I strived for getting this tone inside the Groove Rider and I achieved it! It is quite the proving point for the versatility of GR-16 and I hope many see the potential in this. Also, a space flute! Close to the method of the Bell tone but with Triangle Wave.
